Maliki: I will continue to run for prime minister despite Trump's warning

Iraqi prime ministerial candidate Nouri al-Maliki announced today his rejection of "blatant American interference in Iraq's internal affairs," following President Donald Trump's warning that Washington would cease its support for Baghdad if Maliki returned to power.

Hawzah News Agency- In a post on the "X" platform, Maliki wrote: "We categorically reject the blatant American interference in Iraq's internal affairs. We consider it a violation of its sovereignty, a contravention of the democratic system established in Iraq after 2003, and a transgression against the 'Coordination Framework' decision'', which nominated him for the position on Saturday

.''He added: "I will continue working until we reach the end, in a way that achieves the best interests of the Iraqi people

Maliki stated that "dialogue between countries is the only political option for engagement, not resorting to dictates and threats''. US President Donald Trump had asserted on Tuesday that reinstating Nouri al-Maliki as Iraqi prime minister would be a "very bad" choice, noting that Iraq had witnessed widespread poverty and chaos during his previous term.
